We really like dessert around here. This one rates up there with cheesecake in our family.
Bread Pudding to celebrate Father's Day.
Bread pudding is easy and my family devours this sinfully, sugary custard dessert in minutes!
4 cups milk or half and half (half and half just makes it richer!) :)
1 TBL vanilla
1 cup brown sugar
8 slices of day old bread - cut in chunks (I used a whole french loaf leftover from Sam's this time...I use whatever I have. One of my friends in Iowa buys day old Jimmie Johns bread for .99 - may even be .50 - or something like that and uses that. It was super yummy with Jimmie Johns bread)
4 TBL Raisins
1 tsp of Cinnamon
Beat the eggs and milk together, adding the vanilla and brown sugar as the eggs blend. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well. Pour into a greased 9X13 pan. Bake in a water bath (I use my jelly roll pan, place the 9X13 on it and pour water in the jelly roll pan) at 350' for 50 min - 1 hour or until a knife inserted comes out clean.
Caramel sauce - (not pictured...I omit this sometimes because we have a diabetic in our midst...but we <3 the caramel sauce)
1 1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup of whipping cream
Microwave sugar and butter until butter melts. Add whipping cream and stir; microwave until sugar dissolves and sauce is smooth. (2-3 min?)
and to top it off...
Whip some heavy whipping cream and add a little sugar and vanilla and you have whipped cream! :)
