Finally in double digits as of 1:21 am, my girl Alex turned 10 today. I couldn't help but smile as I watched her enjoy the lime light. And, as I see my eyes in hers my heart skips a beat thinking how quickly 10 years has past.
She now figures out technology faster than me, can cook some things as well as me, takes fabulous photographs, types faster than her dad (even his pecking method), has a servant's heart, her daddy's cheeks and a contagious smile.
As I've watched her begin to make friends here and warm up to the new surroundings I see mini me. She was very hesitant in any new situation. She was cautious with new people. She seemed not herself at first. And now, she blossoms and finds enjoyment in the things just two weeks ago she was too afraid to participate in.
Today she got on the phone and spilled the day as it happened so far to her Aunty Anne. She highlighted a new purse, getting her hair curled, and a Saturday lunch date set at a trendy coffee place.
She slept in late, did a little school, talked on the phone, and went to AWANA. She and I spent some precious time looking through her scrapbook. We giggled together at the sight of Eric's large, round glasses he wore when she was born. It was hard to focus on the cute daddy/alex pictures when all we could see were those glasses taking up half his face. It was also cool for her to see people she's meeting now that are old friends of ours. She doesn't remember them but looking through her book she saw them holding her as a baby. I loved looking through it with her as she would get close to a page she memorized by heart and announce what pictures were coming next.
Her love language is gifts and words of affirmation and today I think her tank runneth over. And I took a lot of joy in seeing her face shine all through the day.
Happy Birthday to my first born daughter. You're growing up too fast! But, I'm excited for what your future holds and honored to be a part of your life.
