Eric took off Friday and today and we escaped to a homeschool convention in Wichita. Two days of encouragement, resources and overwhelming amounts of information.
The kids ventured into a VBS-type (as a smart friend described it) exploration called Adventures in Character. At the end of the two days they gave a performance to the parents of songs and memory verses they learned. They also shared a video of the adventure. They had a blast!
I also met the leader of the coop we're joining for next year in Wichita. I was so nervous. You know. Because I don't have "normal" kids. :-)
But she was normal too. And so very easy to talk with. As an added bonus she is a more seasoned homeschooler in the curriculum I use. She was able to give me some great information on the spot. I'm so excited to get involved in this group. I think it's just what we were looking for!
Eric bought Jake, my little writer, a one year adventure in writing curriculum. It's a DVD set and workbooks detailing how to write a book. By the end of the year you will have written a novel. Now Jake, who comes by this honestly, has file upon file saved on my computer of books he's started. None that he's finished. He is so excited about this he asked to start tomorrow. This should prove to be a fun endeavor for dad and Jake.
We get to Wichita so rarely anymore (well, except for Eric who WORKS there). Gas is just too expensive for me to go much. Eric knows how I love Target and allowed me to do ALL my grocery shopping tonight while he entertained the kids. AND - hold your applause - he ALSO let me go into Eddie Bauer Outlet and buy some much-needed clothes..this was my gift from him for our anniversary. The only restriction - I'm not allowed to complain that I have nothing to wear that fits! (which was a good problem, but still...)
